Introduction.
The Marika-Alderton House is an example of Australian vernacular architecture. It is designed to resist the Northern Australian, tropical conditions; blistering heat, hurricane winds, flooding and intense sun. The house blends traditional indigenous housing with western architectural practice. The open and slatted house provides ventilation and views whilst allowing privacy as requested by the client. The structural supports are steel and provide an elevated structural soundness to resist high winds and flooding and Australia wood provides a natural finish.
